Message from Principal McPherson
Dear families and staff of Father Beauregard School
I am forwarding to you all a draft copy of a news release that will sent out to the public later on today about the short term future of our affected schools, Good Shepherd and Father Beauregard.
As all of our families and staff who live in our school neighbourhood know, due to concerns about the health and safety of our area and how that will affect those of us living and working here, return to Abasand has been restricted for an undetermined period of time. As a result of this decision we have not had access to our school to begin any repairs or remediation to get ready for the upcoming school year.
In order to properly plan and prepare for the next school year, difficult decisions had to be made. This is a decision that has not been made lightly and like me, many of you are saddened and disappointed that we cannot immediately return to our homes and home school. As the news release states: the health and safety of our students, staff and families is our first priority.
At this point in time Senior administration and myself are evaluating a number of scenarios but we have not finalized what the next year looks like and what options will be available (for example many of our families may choose to register their children in their temporary locations for a variety of reasons) but as we work through these decisions we will keep you all informed.
As a community we have been dealt a terrible blow as a result of this unprecedented fire. In our situation that level of stress is multiplied as we continue to face uncertainly about our timeline in returning to our Abasand community. Please continue to look to us, your school family, as a source of support. We may not be in the building for the next school year but we will always be your Father Beauregard Family. Our faith in God and our strength as leaders will help us to get through these challenging times.
I know we have amazing students, staff and families but in times like these we all need support. This is the time to lean on each other and to look for support when you need it. There are a variety of mental health programs available to you and your families. If you have any questions about how to access these resources please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.
I can not tell you how much I miss you all and how I wish things were different. My faith in God and you all will keep me strong and I hope our faith and support in you will do the same for you. Together we will find our way back to our school family. It has been wonderful working with you all this year and I will continue to part of you educational journey next year. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me any time. I wish you the best summer and am available if anyone needs help in the next months.
God Bless and take care
